RNC 8 Charged Under State Patriot Act; Being Held on $75,000 Bail

By Aura Blogando

Just got off the phone with Bruce Nestor from the Minnesota Chapter of the National Lawyer’s Guild: eight alleged leaders of the RNC Welcoming Committee have been charged with very serious terrorism charges, and face about 10 years each behind bars. They are Monica Bicking, Eryn Trimmer, Luce Guillen Givins, Erik Oseland, Nathanael Secor, Robert Czernik, Garrett Fitzgerald and Max Spector – their group was infiltrated by paid informants.  I am heading down to the jail, and will try to return by evening to blog some more.

I just heard that they had the bails reduced to $10k.

I guess I had it better when I was in my twenties. I had the MN Nuclear Freeze Campaign, The Honeywell Project, Women Against Military Maddness, and a host of other organizations all staffed by adults who taught us how to effectively participate in a civil disobedience. I had police that would block traffic for us and help out with sunstroke victims, sprained ankles, etc. The marches I went on were straight political fundraisers and we elected people that would end the cold war. I had a Pope too that got off his butt and moved his church to work for peace. I also that group Physicians for a Nuclear Free World who filled the Mpls Convention Center and told us about the effects of nuclear war.

It took about ten years, but together that wall came down over in Germany and Gorby came to Minnesota. Ronald Regan never got his Star Wars program. Nuclear warheads were dismantled. I don’t even know what that nuclear clock is at right now. I know it’s not at 2 minutes to Midnight.

Now I am the adult and it’s very sad that we have not passed down our knowledge to the kids we gave birth to. I suppose we thought we had made the world a better place and we had our babies and settled into the good life. So we were wrong. Time to admit it. Support those kids, the so-called RNC 8 who were sitting in a jail cell as someone else broke windows and tossed over trash cans. As if that’s a terrorist act anyway. They don’t deserve prison time. Send money for their legal defense if you can. Do something. We raised them — time to pay the piper for them maybe.

    Sincerely,

    Blanche Hall
